3 Days Gorillas & Lake Bunyonyi from Kigali
From Kigali to the gorillas in Bwindi, then a night on Lake Bunyonyi — our home — before the drive back.
Our favourite short trip, because it does what a short trip should: the trek, and then somewhere still to sit afterwards. Lake Bunyonyi is on the way back to Rwanda, so the rest costs you nothing in driving.

Day by day
- Day 1
Kigali to Bwindi
North from Kigali through Rwanda’s rolling hills, across the border at Katuna, a stop in Kabale — our town — and on to the forest. Lunch at the lodge, a quiet afternoon, and the briefing for the next day after dinner.
Overnight: Bweza Gorilla Lodge
- Day 2
Gorilla trekking, then Lake Bunyonyi
The briefing at park headquarters and the walk into the forest to find a habituated family; one hour with them, then back for lunch. In the afternoon, the short drive down to Lake Bunyonyi.
Overnight: Itambira Island Resort
- Day 3
The islands, and back to Kigali
Breakfast over the water, then a boat out among the islands — including Akampene, Punishment Island, whose history the boatmen tell plainly. Then back across the border to Kigali, to your hotel or the airport.

About the gorilla permit
The permit is included in the price and bought in your name from the Uganda Wildlife Authority — currently USD 800 each for foreign non-residents, less in April, May and November. We pass it through at cost and send you the reference number so you can see it is real.
UWA takes full payment when the permit is booked and does not hold them, so a trek is only confirmed once the permit is paid. How permits work →
